JULIE DUROCHER FUNERARY ART, The art of the Offering
As a visual artist, Julie Durocher has created a body of work that is profoundly connected to the themes of nature and spirituality. In refining her research on rituals and sacred objects, her interest in funeral sites and artefacts deepened and inspired her creativity. For 30 years now, Julie has brought her exquisite sensitivity to the making of commemorative artwork and unique and personalised funeral urns.
“I see the funeral urn as a spiritual home. More than a simple container for ashes, it becomes a ceremonial vessel paying tribute to the life of a person. While creating each piece, I am reminded that these urns can positively influence how we experience a funeral ceremony and the loss of a loved one.”
For Muses Design Urns, the artist created an entirely new collection of ecological urns. These Ephemeral Urns, individually handcrafted, are made of natural fibres. Each is designed to be put in the earth, gradually dissolving and, with time, allowing the ashes to become one with nature.
“There is a unique beauty in knowing that the
urn will be returned to the earth. This gesture or ritual of deep intensity
highlights the poetic dimension of perpetual motion and
completes the meaningfulness of the offering. The urn as it is, fragile,
evanescent, imbued of its own essence, becomes a
temple for the spirit, which, with this symbolic gesture and in accordance with
nature, further expresses our desire for reconciliation with the continuity of
life’s natural cycles. This spiritual tribute can
humbly help overcome the pain caused by the loss of a loved one.
